Much like dance, karate is all about discipline, commitment and passion to achieve perfect form. I recently photographed Dietlof who had achieved his black belt in karate and wanted photos that captured the result of his countless hours of practice.
Photographing children can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be; especially not in my studio. When it comes to capturing the quirks of your little ones, the best thing you can do is let go of the idea that they should sit in front of the camera and say cheese. Instead, I always recommend letting your kids explore my studio a bit so they can get comfortable in their surroundings- that’s when their little personalities come out and they truly shine.
That’s exactly how I got these adorable portraits of Alison’s two little ones at my Middelburg studio recently.
So often you think of having your photo taken, and your next thought is, ‘how do I pose in front of the camera?’ You may pop an arm on your hip and flash a smile, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. Sometimes the most beautiful portraits are where there is no elaborate posing, no smiling; just you experiencing the moment and living in the now.
That was the exact process behind Eunice’s recent session at my Middelburg studio. We wanted to create something that went beyond, ‘this is what I look like,’ and into this is what I feel.
