Part of having a studio is ensuring I have all the equipment I need to meet my creative vision, it also means test shoots for when I get new equipment in. After years of being on the fence about a strip softbox, I finally invested in one and couldn’t wait to test it out… in an unconventional way of course.
Family isn’t just who you share DNA with, it’s about who you are as together and how you like to spend your time together. For the Verwey family, they’re about fishing and hockey and choose to add a touch of that to their recent session at my Middelburg studio.

Being a portrait photographer is always a balance between your own creative vision and that of the people you’re creating for. However, every once in a while someone will come along with my favorite phrase for a session: “I want something different.” Music to my ears!
The Groenewald family recently did just that. They wanted a family portrait reminiscent of a 19th century tin type; an early method of photography that produced an unique look. Think of Victorian photos and you’ve got it. They also wanted fine art portraits of their children, surrounded by flowers and with a painterly feel.
A quick session at my Middelburg studio and many hours in Photoshop later, and we have this.
