What makes a beautiful photo; is it in throwing as much stuff into the frame as possible? Nope. It’s simply in matching the right lighting and colour to the personality of the person you’re photographing.
Admittedly this session started off completely different with edgy gelled lighting but it just didn’t fit Lene’s beautifully vibrant personality. So we switched it up to create a touch of soft, yet brilliant, sunshine in my Middelburg studio.
There is just something magical about the look of old photos. It’s in the lighting, the film stock used and the way a printed photo just ages into something that screams nostalgia. Part of my personal photography goals this year is to bring some of that filmy-goodness to my own work, and of course that means experimenting in my Middelburg studio with portfolio photoshoots.
For this session with the lovely Michelle it was all about playing with lighting to create a super soft skylight lit look. While the setup doesn’t look like the most glamorous behind the scenes, it definitely worked to create the desired end result.
An outdoor session is the conventional choice when it comes to couples portraits. However Wihan and Danelle didn’t want conventional, so they book beautifully classic couples portraits at my Middelburg studio.
Did I offer styled Christmas sessions this year? You bet I did! However the full Christmas look is not everyone’s vibe and some prefer a simple nod to the season with a pop of red in their wardrobe. This is perfect if you want to have special photos for Christmas greeting cards and printed photo gifts for the grandparents that will look great all year round.
It was great to have the Coetzee family at my Middelburg studio and help them capture special moments they can treasure for a lifetime.
For some, a job is just that- a job. However for others like Estelle, their job is so much more; it’s a calling to service of others and community in the hope of making a positive impact. With 37 years in service to the SA Police, Estelle wanted to remember and honor her long career with a special session at my Middelburg studio, by capturing her in all her different uniforms.
Admittedly as someone with a deep interest in criminology, forensics and the justice system, this was an especially fascinating session discovering all the minutiae of the different uniforms and chatting a bit about her career.
