Everything You Wanted to Know About a Boudoir Session
If the thought of a boudoir session makes you nervous, but curious too, then this is for you. I’ll answer all your burning questions and put your mind at ease that boudoir photography is fun and empowering.

What’s the Difference between a Boudoir and a Women’s session?
When you’re booking a women’s session, it’s about using photos to say ‘this is what I look like and here’s a peek at who I am.’ A boudoir session goes further in exploring your femininity and sensuality, all while boldly saying, ‘this is me,’ in photos that celebrate your uniquely beautiful body. While both options will boost your confidence, a boudoir session does so on a deeper level as you confront your vulnerabilities in a safe, welcoming environment.
I’m scared I won’t be comfortable and will feel exposed in the intimate setting of a boudoir session.
This is where choosing a photographer you trust is key. Personally, I strive to create a studio space that is welcoming of all body shapes and sizes, and as a plus-size woman myself, I understand how difficult it can be to accept and love your body. I use that empathy to tailor your boudoir session to your own personal expression of femininity and your comfort levels, all while encouraging you along the way. I always say that the first few photos will feel awkward, but as you go your confidence blossoms and the real you you comes out.

What Does a Boudoir Session Look Like?
Each photographer will have their own flow to a session, but here’s mine. It all starts with that first contact as I get your booking secured in my schedule and we chat about your session. This is where getting an idea of your expectations is vital and I encourage you to send me some inspiration images so I can plan your session. When session day comes along, we’ll meet at my studio and get to know each other as I do your makeup. Then from there it’s time for the magic as I guide you on how to pose, and before you know it, your session is done.
What Should I bring with to a Boudoir Session?
Simple- wardrobe! Depending on how much session time you’ve booked, you can bring extra wardrobe sets with for changes. Bring items that make you feel beautiful and that you love; in that way your confidence will already have a head start. Don’t forget to bring accessories with as well, including anything of your partner’s if the photos are a gift for them.

How Can I Prepare for My Boudoir Session?
Here are a few tips to remember when it comes to preparing for your boudoir session:
- Wear loose clothing for when you arrive to my Middelburg studio so you don’t have any pressure marks on your skin.
- Book your next nail appointment for a few days before your session and don’t forget about your toes. Remember that classic colours or a french manicure look best.
- Drink plenty of water and moisturise head-to-toe in the days leading up to your session to give your skin that added glow.
- Wear sunscreen in the days before your session to avoid burning or unwanted tan lines.
- Avoid a heavy or salty meal before your session so you don’t feel full and bloated.
- Remove the tags from your outfits.
