Each August we pay homage to the remarkable women of South Africa, and commemorate the women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 to protest the carrying of pass books. These women were mothers, sisters, daughters and friends who decided to be the spark of change they wanted to see.
As women we’ve faced disadvantages throughout history, and yet in spite of that there have always been everyday women who’ve become remarkable in their determination to rise and be more than what society at the time saw them as.
What is the ‘Remarkable Women Series’?
This August, to commemorate Women’s Month and honor the history and journey of women in South Africa, I’d like to embark on a special art project to be featured on my website. I’d like to tell the remarkable stories of everyday, local women through modern portraits and short Q&A interviews. These portraits and interviews will be featured on my website in a new section dedicated solely to art series.
Who will be featured in the series?
It’s simple- you. Every single woman has value and worth, and has encountered obstacles in her journey that have shown her of the deep well of strength she possess and her ability to not just rise to the challenge, but rise above it to new heights in her journey.
How does this work?
If you’d love to share your thoughts on being a woman in South Africa and receive a complimentary portrait session, then all you need to do is email email@example.com or whatsapp 0790865779 during office hours, telling me a bit about yourself.
Before your session there’s a short Q&A style interview that can be completed here. As for your portrait session, it will be at my Middelburg studio in July and you’ll receive a 30-45 minute studio session with 6 high resolution, fully edited photos on 9 August 2020 via private online gallery.
There are only 5 spots available and this offer is open to all women- as long as you identify as a woman, I’d love to hear from you!
Applications are now closed.
